Hu Ge and Yang Zi’s highly-anticipated drama, “Born to be Alive” is set to be released on 30 January via iQiyi.

The drama, written by Wan Sanmao and directed by Li Xue, employs a dual-narrative structure, inspired by the true story of Sonam Dargye, an anti-poaching hero in the Hoh Xil region, and tells the legendary tale of two generations of guardians who risked their lives to uphold the belief that “the no-man’s land is not a lawless land.”

One storyline goes back to the 1990s, telling the story of Dorje, played by Hu Ge, fighting poaching; while the other storyline extends to the 2010s, telling the story of Bai Ju, played by Yang Zi, investigating the truth and promoting ecological poverty alleviation.

Yang Zi shared that she was originally nervous about playing a character so different from her usual roles, but that she gradually found her confidence, and appreciating her character Bai Ju’s “constant pursuit of self-worth.”

“After the series airs, the audience will have their own interpretations, but I hope we can convey this beauty to the audience and let everyone see that even in the no-man’s land, an incredibly splendid and vibrant spring can bloom.”
