Nearly two weeks after he went viral for the video of him acting rude to staff, The Boyz’s Sunwoo finally decided to pen his own apology for his behaviour.

Earlier this month, a video went viral on X showing that the rapper was shouting “My AirPods!” and walking away after appearing to drop his gadget on the floor. He later received the same item from a security guard with one hand, a gesture that was seen as impolite in the South Korean culture, especially when the security guard passed the AirPods with two hands.

After the incident sparked backlash, his agency One Hundred Label apologised on his behalf, but was not received well by netizens.

On 14 April, Sunwoo finally decided to say sorry personally, writing, “I sincerely apologise for the delay in writing this message. I kept wondering how I could truthfully express my honest thoughts and feelings, and whether I was perhaps writing something that didn’t reflect my true self. That hesitation and reflection caused this message to be delayed.”

“First of all, I imagine many of you must be feeling exhausted. I’ve been reflecting deeply —over and over— on my words, actions, and shortcomings. Because of my personal thoughts and irrational behaviour, the original intention behind what I wanted to convey was distorted. Even though I had no such intention, I allowed my emotions to take over, and as a result, my words and actions came across in ways that hurt others. I want to sincerely apologise for not being more careful.”

Sunwoo also denied that the apology came as a way to move past the situation.

“This is not about asking for forgiveness or trying to say I feel wronged. If someone perceived me in a certain way, then I have to acknowledge that maybe I truly came across that way. And from now on, I will strive to prove — not only to you but to myself — that I am not that kind of person, that I am someone who truly values and cares about human relationships and people’s feelings, even if it takes time,” he added.

Lastly, he apologised to the fans who have loved and supported him.
