Anita Mui’s family has finally broken their silence over the theft of the Cantopop singer’s remains, amid the many speculations regarding the matter.
On 13 October, the late singer’s nephew released a statement to the media in response to the many misleading and false information regarding the matter, stating that the family did not want the misinformation to affect the investigation.
He stated, “From the outset, the police have not listed anyone as a suspect in this case. We urge all netizens and the public to remain rational and refrain from attacking, publicly judging, or maliciously speculating against any individual or group.”
“Our core objective is to concentrate all efforts on collecting useful information and fully cooperate with the Major Crimes Unit’s investigation in order to find Ms. Mui’s ashes as soon as possible and allow her to rest in peace. As the case is still under rigorous investigation, out of respect for the judicial process, we cannot disclose any investigation details and are temporarily unable to accept any media interviews. We ask for the understanding of all media reporters.”
The Mui family also revealed that the case has already been transferred to the New Territories South Regional Crime Unit for investigation on 12 October.
At the same time, they urge all citizens and drivers who have spotted suspicious persons or vehicles in the vicinity of Po Lin Monastery and Hai Hui Pagoda on Lantau Island in the past few months, or who have recorded relevant dashcam footages, to immediately contact the relevant law enforcement department.
It was back on 10 October that the Anita Mui International Fan Club revealed that the urn containing the singer’s ashes had been stolen. It added that investigation into the case had gone for three months without any result.
