BTS has recently announced as a group that they will not submit their new album “Arirang” to the Grammy Awards this year, following the previous announcement from the Recording Academy that they are creating a new Best Asian Pop Music category.
In a statement that was shared by all the members simultaneously via their individual Instagram, they stated, “We have decided not to submit to the Grammys this year. [We] hope music itself can be heard and loved rather than being distinguished by region or language.”
“Thank you to the ARMY and everyone for always being with [us],” they added.
It is noted that the Grammys is known for adding new categories every few years, but that there had been some criticisms as to the categories they created.
In addition to Best Asian Pop Music, the Recording Academy had also created Best Latin Song category, which to many seemed to be a response to Bad Bunny winning Album of the Year last year, with his album, “Debi Tirar Mas Fotos” becoming the first Spanish-language album to do so.
BTS is no stranger to the Grammy Awards. They have been nominated at the awards five times, though yet to win one.
