Fans of the Shinichiro Watanabe samurai adventure anime, “Samurai Champloo” will be delighted to know that a live-action adaptation of the series is now in development.

As reported on Variety, the project is being worked on by Tomorrow Studios, most known for the hit Netflix live-action series, “One Piece”.

Said producer Becky Clements, “We had dinner with [Watanabe] in Japan and said, if we move forward on doing ‘Samurai Champloo,’ we really want you to be a part of the creative. We were thrilled that he was willing to do that.”

Clements also assured that they will retain the anime’s hip-hop influence in the live-action project, seeing that its music played a major role in separating “Samurai Champloo” from other similar anime shows of the genre.

This would be the second time that Tomorrow Studios has developed Watanabe’s work. The studio previously adapted “Cowboy Bebop,” though it did not reach the same success as “One Piece”.

However, the producers stressed that they will involve Watanabe as a creator more this time.

The series, which aired in 2004, follows the adventure of vagrant outlaw Mugen, and ronin Jin as they follow a waitress named Fuu to aid in her quest to find a samurai who smells of sunflowers.
