Anita Mui’s family has recently denied news claiming that the perpetrator who stole the urn containing the remains of the late singer has now been captured.
The family recently addressed the issue, telling the media, “Our family is deeply troubled by this entire situation. The information was never verified, yet it spread with alarming speed. The report is absolutely false.”
The whole thing sparked after Hong Kong critic and filmmaker Manfred Wong made a claim on his YouTube channel that the police had identified a temple employee as a suspect, alleging that the individual had fled to Southeast Asia.
He said that he received an online video forwarded by the head of “Anita Mui Fans Club”, and that the video alleged that, following an exhaustive investigation, which included using expert techniques to enhance blurry footage of a vehicle, police identified a temple staff member named Ah Chiang, who had allegedly flown to Southeast Asia following the incident.
However, soon after, Manfred admitted his oversight to the media. He explained that when he followed up with the head of the fan club, the latter confessed to having forwarded the video without verifying its contents. Manfred also discovered that the platform responsible for the video frequently uses AI to generate content about Anita Mui.
