Xin Zhilei has recently been named the winner of the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the recently concluded Venice Film Festival.
The actress was awarded the coveted accolade for her performance in Cai Shangjun’s “The Sun Rises on Us All”, becoming her first recognition outside of China for the film.
“Look, today I am finally here, standing on this world-class stage, competing with so many top performers from all over the world, and receiving this award. I am proud of myself,” she said in her acceptance speech.
She also thanked the cast and crew and added, “To all the girls out there, if you have a dream, dare to imagine it and go after it. You never know, it might just come true.”
Xin is only the third Chinese actress who has won the said award, aside from Gong Li (1992) and Deanie Ip (2011).
In the movie, the actress plays Meiyun, who meets her lover Baoshu (Zhang Songwen) again seven years later following an accident, and both are confronted with long-forgotten secrets from their past.
