Fans of Hu Yitian were elated to find that the actor is back on the small screen after nearly two years, only to be disappointed upon seeing the project that he will be involved in.
The actor, known for dramas like “Go Go Squid!”, “Handsome Siblings” and “A Love So Beautiful”, earlier joked on social media, saying “Did I retire?”, sparking speculations that he must be coming out with a new project after 673 days of having no new dramas.
On 10 July, it was finally revealed that he is making his return with a new series, titled, “A Serendipitous Friendship”, which is based on the Su Guangtong novel of the same name.
The series is a coming-of-age story about a genius girl and her relationship with her equally gifted friends, and is considered a youth series. Hu will be playing one of the male leads and to star alongside Tian Xiwei and Hani Kyzy.
While the news excited many fans, who celebrated the fact that he is coming back to work, there was also backlash due to the fact that he is not the lead actor. Some even questioned Hu for still taking on high school or campus roles at his age of 31 years old.
It is noted that Hu’s last drama was “Blossoms in Adversity”, which was released last year but filmed in 2023. He has only participated in the variety show “Chinese Restaurant Season 8” and a small number of fashion events.
