After years of working with Hong Kong and Chinese directors, as well as making his Hollywood debut last year, Tony Leung Chiu Wai recently revealed his desire to work with Korean filmmakers.
The actor, who appeared at the Busan International Film Festival, shared in a press conference held at the event of his willingness to star in a Korean drama someday, as long as he is given a role that can overcome the language barrier.
“If there is a role that does not require me to speak like the characters in that film, maybe I can also be in Korean dramas,” he said.
When asked to name his favourite Korean actors, Tony mentioned Song Kang-Ho and Jeon Do-Yeon, both of whom starred in several movies together including the latest disaster flick, “Emergency Declaration.”
“I am happy to see Korean content doing well. I have a long history with Korea. When I first took part in [the BIFF in 1997], I walked on a narrow red carpet and the opening ceremony was also held on a small stage. But yesterday, it held a grand opening ceremony,” he said.
It is noted that the “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” star is this year’s recipient of BIFF’s Asian Filmmaker of the Year Award.
