Chinese actor Wang Kai found himself having to clarify that it was not him who had died, following the news that a Taiwanese actor of the same name had passed away.
The actor’s studio had to release a statement on social media to deny the reports, especially after some individuals decided to misreport the death and dragged the mainland star into the mix.
It stated, “The sudden death of Taiwanese actor Wang Kai is a regrettable tragedy. However, many self-media outlets, seeking to gain traffic, misused [Wang Kai’s] image and photos in their news reports, misleading the public into believing he had passed away. This shows a complete lack of respect for the deceased and a wanton infringement on the artiste’s reputation and image.”
“Relying on false information to gain traffic is truly shameless,” they added.
Taiwanese actor Wang Kai, who was found unresponsive at home in Da’an district, Taiwan, back on 26 July before he was pronounced dead, was born Wang Chien-lung. Meanwhile, the “Nirvana in Fire” actor, born in Wuhan, uses his real name as his stage name.
