It was revealed that Yang Zi received a higher salary than her male lead, Hu Ge for the drama, “Born to be Alive” and yet it was lower than her usual remuneration.
As reported on Epoch Times, mainland media recently posted the salaries of the main actors, showing that Yang Zi received RMB 12 million, which is two million more than Hu Ge, who was paid RMB 10 million for the drama.
However, it was said that the amount is actually lower than usual, as Yang Zi previously received RMB 20 million for “Flourished Peony”.
The actress reportedly reduced her salary for “Born to be Alive” mainly because the cost of filming on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau alone was as high as RMB 8 million per episode.
It’s worth mentioning that Yang Zi, who plays the role of Bai Ju in the drama, voluntarily lost 15 pounds, tanned herself, and appeared on screen without makeup throughout. Her extreme dedication during the 188 days of filming on the plateau has become a focal point.
The drama, written by Wan Sanmao and directed by Li Xue, employs a dual-narrative structure, inspired by the true story of Sonam Dargye, an anti-poaching hero in the Hoh Xil region, and tells the legendary tale of two generations of guardians who risked their lives to uphold the belief that “the no-man’s land is not a lawless land.”
One storyline goes back to the 1990s, telling the story of Dorje, played by Hu Ge, fighting poaching; while the other storyline extends to the 2010s, telling the story of Bai Ju, played by Yang Zi, investigating the truth and promoting ecological poverty alleviation.
