The death of Yu Menglong continues to spark speculations regarding the dark side of the entertainment industry, and is now being further fuelled by a past statement made by Huang Zitao.
The singer’s past livestream comments criticising the industry has recently resurfaced, in which he revealed a new rule being established in his company that any collaborations that require alcohol consumption will be rejected.
“If they ask you to drink, get out. If the job requires drinking, get out!” he said.
Known as Tao, the artiste said that he has always found it very irrational to have to go drink with people after having a busy schedule.
“So if I don’t eat, you’re going to blacklist me? Is that what you mean? You’re really something. If I don’t eat, you think I’m disrespecting you, so you get mad. These people have all these disgusting habits, you know? Just because they produce shows, they think all artistes have to beg them,” he said at the time.
This explosive revelation once sparked a heated discussion and highlighted the long-standing unspoken rules in the entertainment industry.
Now, with the sudden death of Yu Menglong and the surrounding suspicions, many people are reminded of Tao’s past revelations.
It is noted that Yu, who passed away on 11 September after falling down a building, had his death ruled out as accident. His own mother released a statement saying that it was due to alcohol consumption and asked everybody to stop pointing fingers.
Yu was reported to have been attending a dinner with several people from the entertainment industry prior to the tragedy.
