Stephy Tang has decided to distance herself from her non-showbiz friend’s remark against Theresa Fu, amid the controversy that stems from Theresa’s most recent interview.

The whole issue started after Theresa, who was part of Stephy’s former girl group Cookies, recounted how she was ostracised by her fellow members after she returned to the group following her recovery from an illness. She also claimed that one of the members publicly reprimanded her when she was feeling unwell during filming.

A social media user later left a comment under related report, attributing Theresa’s past experiences to her personality, saying that she was “naturally socially awkward and highly sensitive,” and advised her to learn to communicate instead of constantly accusing others of bullying.

Other netizens began to investigate, and saw that the comments were made by a friend of Stephy who is not involved in the industry.

When asked about it recently at a public event, Stephy emphasised that what the friend said was not her stance.

“My friend is an independent adult, and their words and actions do not represent me at all,” she said.

She admitted to feeling surprised and slightly disappointed when she saw the comments, but understood that the person close to her might be affected by emotions.

However, she said that as a friend, she felt she should apologise on their behalf and appealed to the public to give her non-celebrity friend space. She revealed that the other person had admitted their mistake afterwards, but that they just had to face the consequences.

When asked whether this would further affect her relationship with Theresa, the singer said that the topic had been around for many years and she had no intention of explaining further.

“Those who know me and have worked with me know my character,” she said.

As for accusations made by netizens that she was involved in Theresa’s bullying, she said that her management has taken screenshots as evidence and will hand them over to lawyers if necessary.
