Stephanie Ho recently revealed that her son Asher has now moved to Vancouver so that they can have better access to therapy and training for his condition.
The singer, whose only son has Angelman syndrome, told the media at the HOY’s launch ceremony for the upcoming Asian Games coverage that she and singer-husband Fred Cheng take turns staying in the Canadian city to look after their son.
“I fly over every month to spend two or three weeks with my son. My husband and I coordinate our schedules very well and keep in touch through a group chat,” she said.
Stephanie said that living in Canada would benefit her son’s development, as there is more space for him and the climate is comfortable. She also hopes to have more time to spend with him and create more happy memories together.
“Flying between the two places costs quite a lot. Fortunately, we have the means to make these choices. Scheduling work is quite a headache now, but many times, family comes first,” she said.
Angelman syndrome is a rare neurogenetic disorder that impairs the function of the nervous system, producing symptoms such as severe intellectual disability, developmental disability, limited to no functional speech, balance and movement problems, seizures, hyperactivity, and sleep problems.
Stephanie and Fred first shared news about their son’s condition in June 2024 as Asher celebrated his second birthday.
