Nearly two years after it was announced, it was revealed that Indonesia is going ahead with its remake of South Korea’s “Descendants of the Sun” with two of its biggest actors playing the leads.
Dian Sastrowardoyo, most famous in Southeast Asia for her role in “Gadis Kretek” and “Ada Apa Dengan Cinta”, plays the Indonesian version of Song Hye-kyo’s Kang Mo-yeon, while award-winning Reza Rahadian portrays Song Joong-ki’s Yoo Shi-jin.
However, what’s interesting about the remake is that it is not a TV series like the original, but instead has been changed into a feature film set for release in 2027.

Korean Studio NEW, the same one behind the 2016 drama, is not only licensing the rights, but is also involved in planning and producing the remake.
Meanwhile, NEW’s distribution subsidiary, Contents Panda, will manage the distribution of the remake film in Korea.
The movie is helmed by Hanung Bramantyo of “Ayat-Ayat Cinta” and “Perempuan Berkalung Sorban” fame.
