Three weeks following the death of celebrated producer Nansun Shi, a memorial service was finally held for her at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Wan Chai on 2 August.
As reported on Mingpao, the memorial service, which was held privately, saw approximately 500 filmmakers, film workers and artistes from the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan attending to pay their respects.
This includes Dayo Wong, Charlie Yeung, Tony Leung and wife Carina Lau, George Lam and wife Sally Yeh, Donnie Yen and wife Cissy Wang, mainland stars Li Bingbing, Zhou Xun and Feng Xiaogang, as well as Taiwanese celebrities Gwai Lun-mei and Kevin Tsai.
Those who couldn’t attend, like Andy Lau, Cecilia Cheung and Michael Hui, sent wreaths to express their condolences.
Following the memorial, Shi’s ex-husband Tsui Hark and close friend Brigitte Lin gave a joint interview.
Said Brigitte, “Nansun was an extraordinary filmmaker. Her contributions to Hong Kong cinema and her character are too numerous to describe in a single book. She was also incredibly kind to her friends; she was truly devoted to them. In her final days, many close friends and family members were by her side every day. During her time in the hospital, Tsui Hark and I took turns watching over her 24 hours a day. In the end, she left us peacefully surrounded by love.”
“Today (2 August), seeing so many good friends come from all over the world, I feel extremely grateful and moved. Everyone is so thoughtful,” she added.
