Masaharu Fukuyama recently announced that he is releasing a new album, six years after his last one.

The Japanese singer-actor recently shared the good news on social media, writing, “As a teenager, I didn’t understand the meaning of freedom, yet I sought it in music. But the guitar by my side undoubtedly taught me about spiritual freedom. Fortunately, I was able to make my music debut, begin my creative journey through trial and error, and for 36 years, despite the struggles, I’ve been supported by my fans.”

“My previous album, AKIRA, named after my father, became a journey of redemption to my past self, a return to the 17-year-old me who lost my father. Now at 57, I’ve surpassed the age my father was when he passed away at 53, living each day to the fullest,” he added.

He said that the album embodies his ongoing struggles as a songwriter, brimming with creative energy at a point where past and future intersect.

“Please wait a little longer for this new album, a culmination of the creations that have unfolded over the past five years and nine months since my last work,” he added.

It was reported that the upcoming album, which will be released in September, will include songs released following his last album as well as previously unreleased material, including “Genkai,” a song for his 2025 movie “Black Showman”.
