Jackson Yee’s camp has recently slammed a vertical drama platform for the misuse of the actor’s image and likeness.
On 5 April, the actor’s studio released a statement amid reports that the platform has used AI-generated deepfakes of the actor for several of their shorts.
It stated, “Recently, our studio discovered that some online platforms are disseminating AI-generated dramas that use Mr. Yee’s image without authorisation. Mr. Yee has never acted in any of these dramas, nor has he authorised any third party to use his image for AI synthesis.”
“According to the provisions of the Civil Code of the People’s Republic of China and other relevant laws and regulations, the production company of these dramas’ use of AI synthesis technology to create dramas constitutes infringement, and any entity disseminating the aforementioned dramas online also constitutes infringement. Our studio has now engaged lawyers to protect our rights against the aforementioned infringement and will continue to monitor the infringement and conduct evidence preservation and litigation assessments as needed,” they added.
At the same time, the studio warned relevant entities to immediately remove and cease disseminating the infringing drama content.
“Our studio will actively take legal measures to pursue the full legal responsibility of the infringing parties and resolutely safeguard Mr. Yee’s legitimate rights and interests.”
