Jun Ji-hyun’s camp has denied claims that the actress has lost her advertisement deals, following earlier reports of her ads being taken down in China.

On 23 September, Jun’s management rep PEACHY released an official statement denying that the controversy surrounding her new series, “Tempest” has affected her endorsement deals in China.

“There is absolutely no factual basis for claims that Jun Ji‑hyun’s China ads have been cancelled. While some projects and shoots have been postponed, they have not been called off. These postponements had been arranged prior to Tempest going public, in response to local conditions,” it stated.

The actress and her Disney+ series sparked backlash in China, after her character in the series – a former UN official turned presidential candidate – uttered the line, “Why does China favour war?” in episode four of the series.

Chinese viewers accused the show of painting China unfairly, especially after it depicted Dalian as a rundown city. Some netizens called for boycotts and claimed her brand endorsements were being pulled or disassociated in China.

However, despite clarifying that part of the issue, the agency made no statement regarding the backlash.
