The suspended sentence for actor Yoo Ah-in, who had been put on trial for habitual drug use, has been finalised.
On 3 July, the First Division of the Supreme Court upheld the ruling that sentenced Yoo Ah-in to 1 year in prison, suspended for 2 years, along with a fine of KRW 2 million for violations of the Narcotics Control Act, illegal use of marijuana and encouraging others to use the drug.
Yoo Ah-in, real name Uhm Hong-sik, was indicted in October 2023 on charges of administering propofol a total of 181 times under the guise of sedation anaesthesia at hospitals across Seoul between September 2020 and March 2022.
It was revealed that he had used the names of family members and acquaintances to receive the procedures.
In the first trial, he was sentenced to 1 year in prison and a fine of KRW 2 million, and was taken into custody in court. However, the appellate court overturned this, reducing the sentence to 1 year in prison with a two-year suspended sentence.
With this Supreme Court decision, Yoo Ah-in’s drug case has now been legally concluded.
