Wang Kai recently opened up about his career for the first time, revealing why he has decided to slow down his career at its peak.
In a recent interview, the 44-year-old actor admitted that he was more ambitious when he initially started out his career, striving for every opportunity that came his way.
However, he decided that he needed to slow down at this stage of his life, so that he could absorb more knowledge and skills to give the best performance for the next role.
He said that letting audiences see him in the role, not in real life, has become his current pursuit.
Wang said that the shift in his mindset happened in 2017, after his father succumbed to late-stage lung cancer, prompting him to also go for a medical checkup.
After the hospital informed him of the findings of multiple nodules in his lungs that required re-examination, the then 35-year-old actor said that those two events caused him to change his view on fame and fortune.
He said that he then moved back to his hometown, spent more time with his family, did normal chores and routines and became more selective with his roles.
