Lam Chi Chung has recently dismissed the notion that he and Stephen Chow were butting heads while filming “Kung Fu Soccer,” the all-female spinoff of their hit 2001 film, “Shaolin Soccer”.
The actor, who also co-directed the Dilraba Dilmurat-starrer, said that while the two did have “differences of opinions,” they were not genuine arguments, but “very constructive discussions” that could be intense.
He said that the team would sometimes spend several days either refining even the smallest details in the story or debating the best way to handle a particular scene.
As for rumours that Stephen only wanted everybody to follow his orders, Lam said that that was never the case, and that it was the last thing he wanted.
“He once said, ‘If there are 100 people in the room, ideally all 100 people should have 100 different opinions. Then I can imagine endlessly. Suddenly, I have 100 more choices. Wouldn’t that be great?’” he added.
Asked if fans of the franchise would get to see the two teams of “Kung Fu Soccer” and “Shaolin Soccer” having a showdown one day, the actor laughed and said, “If this was 25 years ago, we might stand a chance!”
