Jun Ji-hyun has recently been named the recipient of the Extraordinary Star Asia Award at the 25th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF).
The “Colony” star is the first Korean actress to receive this award, and was honoured for her significant contributions to the development of Asian cinema.
Her film, “Colony,” was also selected as the festival’s opening film.

Jun Ji-hyun, who attended the festival with director Yeon Sang-ho, stated that filmmaking is a special endeavour that connects people across cultures and languages, and expressed her delight at presenting the film to New York audiences.
“Colony,” which marks Yeon’s return after the success of “Train to Busan” and “Peninsula,” explores the harrowing struggle of isolated survivors trapped in a building, quarantined amidst an unknown outbreak, as they fight for survival against the unpredictably evolving infected.
Jun plays the role of biotechnology professor Kwon Se-jeong in the film that also co-stars Koo Kyo-hwan and Ji Chang-wook.
