It was revealed that Barbie Hsu was actually preparing to return to Taiwan prior to her passing.
In a recent episode of South Korean programme, “Celebrity Soldier’s Secret”, where they interviewed DJ Koo Jun-yup as well as several others in a special episode commemorating the first anniversary of Barbie Hsu’s death, it was revealed that Barbie first developed symptoms such as high fever and body aches shortly after arriving in Japan on 29 January 2025 to celebrate the Lunar New Year with her family.
Thinking that warming herself up might help, she decided to soak herself in the hotel’s hot springs, which only made it worse.
It was revealed that the actress expressed a strong desire to go home after she was rushed to the Emergency Room, fearful of being hospitalised in an unfamiliar place. Thus, her family urgently booked her return flight to Taiwan on 2 February and made arrangements for her to be discharged.
However, on the afternoon of the same day, while en route to the airport, she suffered from a sudden cardiac arrest in the car.
Barbie was then rushed to a nearby hospital where the medical team tried to resuscitate her and put her in intensive care, but she failed to regain consciousness.
She was 48.
