Gun-il, who has officially left the band Xdinary Heroes, apologised for remarks that he made in the past. This comes following an online post by a woman claiming to be Gun-il’s ex-girlfriend, who alleges he had made insulting remarks about fans and his bandmates in private.
It was on 13 August that JYP Entertainment announced that it had terminated his exclusive contract by mutual agreement. The group will continue as a five-member act with Jungsu, Gaon, O.de, Jun Han and Jooyeon.
In its statement, JYP said: “Regarding the recent issues concerning member Gun-il, our agency has deeply recognized the gravity of the situation and has engaged in thorough, multi-faceted discussions with the artist. As a result, we have determined that it is no longer possible for him to continue group activities, and we have mutually agreed to terminate his exclusive contract.” The agency thanked fans for their support and added that it would “continue to provide our full, unsparing support in every way to ensure that the members can focus on their music activities in a stable environment.”
Gun-il, who debuted with the group as leader and drummer in 2021, later addressed the controversy directly in a message on a fan platform, apologising for the remarks while clarifying they weren’t aimed at the fandom as a whole. “It was directed at a few malicious fans who invaded my privacy and left indiscriminate criticism, not at all fans,” he said, adding that he had been stalked earlier this year, including break-ins at his residence and a tracking device placed on his car. He also said he had wanted to stay with the six-member lineup but had “no choice but to accept the company’s decision.”
The turn of events now forces Xdinary Heroes to withdraw from Japan’s Summer Sonic 2026, where they’d been set to perform this weekend.
