Singer G-Dragon has been appointed ambassador for the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting to be held in Busan this month.
The news was announced on 3 July by the National Heritage Administration, stating, “G-Dragon is an artiste who has exerted global influence across culture and the arts beyond K-pop, and he is taking the lead in solving social problems and spreading a culture of public interest through art.”
G-Dragon, real name Kwon Ji-yong, is set to lend his support to campaign activities for the protection of World Heritage as an ambassador. On 10 July, his JUSPEACE Foundation, in collaboration with UNESCO, will launch the “Heritage in Peace” campaign to encourage citizens, businesses, and cities to participate in protecting World Heritage.
Donations raised through the campaign will be delivered to the UNESCO World Heritage Fund. The funds will be used to protect World Heritage sites threatened by war, the climate crisis, and natural disasters.
An official from G-Dragon’s agency stated, “World Heritage is a common asset that all of humanity must protect together,” adding, “We want to deliver a message of peace that many people can relate to and take action on together.”
