Veteran Taiwanese singer David Huang was reported to have passed away earlier this month in an announcement that has shocked many.
In a statement released via a lawyer, David’s sisters Consulina and Joann Wong stated that he died at his sister’s home in Honolulu in Hawaii. He was 61.
“For decades, Mr David Huang has enriched countless lives with his extraordinary musical talent, boundless passion and innate ability to connect people across the world,” said the statement. “On behalf of his family, we would like to express our sincere gratitude once again for everyone’s love and support for Mr Huang over the years.”
David was hospitalised back in 2022 after experiencing sudden cardiac discomfort, despite having no history of chronic illnesses prior.
The statement further revealed that the singer, known for hits like “You Make Me Drunk,” moved to Hawaii in December 2025 to live with his sisters, who are now the sole heirs to his estate. The legal firm that released the statement is also now handling his music assets.
However, the news of his death has unexpectedly sparked controversy among his family, girlfriend, and lawyer. Vicky Chao, David’s girlfriend of 31 years, publicly questioned the legality of related statements and threatened legal action.
Vicky revealed that she only spoke with David’s mother on the 13th and contacted David’s brother the following day. She emphasised that some members of the Huang family were not informed of the contents of the public statement beforehand, and therefore decided to seek legal means to clarify the relevant issues.
