A journalist who reported on the allegations regarding former The Boyz member Ju Hak-nyeon’s private life has been indicted.
On 2 June, it was revealed that the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office indicted a journalist, known only as Choi, without detention on 12 May on charges of defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act.
Choi is accused of publishing an article last June stating that “Ju Hak-nyeon engaged in prostitution with a celebrity who was formerly a Japanese adult video actor,” and that “Ju Hak-nyeon, who had denied the prostitution, later admitted to it.”
As the controversy erupted, Ju’s agency at the time, One Hundred, announced his withdrawal from the team and the termination of his exclusive contract.
In response, the singer stated, “I will hold the reporter and the media outlet that reported me as a sex offender without any basis accountable to the very end,” adding that he had filed a lawsuit against the journalist who made the false report.
Ju was cleared of all allegations in July last year due to insufficient grounds to continue investigation.
