Anita Yuen recently revealed that the reason she and husband Julian Cheung didn’t have a wedding reception was because they found it troublesome.
The 54-year-old actress, who married her actor husband in 2001, spoke about their marriage in an episode of the Chinese reality show, “WonderLand,” saying that they only registered their marriage in the United States and nothing else.
“My husband and I just went to the United States and went to Silicon Valley. We arrived that night and registered the next morning. Only my sister was there to take photos for us. We went to get married wearing T-shirts and jeans, and flew back that afternoon,” she said.
Anita also revealed that they only had a simple meal with friends instead of a formal reception.
As to why they opted to not have a wedding reception, the actress said, “When we first got married, I thought about inviting a lot of friends, but then people would be like, ‘Why didn’t you invite this or that person?’ I found it really annoying. Why should my party have to consider so many other people’s feelings? In the end, it was just the two of us like this.”
It is noted that while the two never had a formal wedding, Julian and Anita did have a fake “wedding ceremony” on the second season of “Call Me by Fire” in 2022, where the two appeared on stage in wedding attire.
