Tony Leung Chiu Wai has a lot of happy moments, but his happiest would be the time spent making movies with Wong Kar Wai.

The Hong Kong legend, who sat down for an interview with JTBC’s “Newsroom” recently, shared that while happiness comes in different forms at each stage, his happiest was the 20 years he spent working with the movie auteur.

“It’s because his ideas are very similar to mine, and that period truly allowed me to hone the acting skills I wanted,” he said.

He even chose Wong Kar Wai’s 2000 movie “In the Mood for Love” as his life’s work.

When asked why, he said, “Firstly, I won many awards for this film, and secondly, the film’s background is from an era I lived through, so filming felt like returning to my childhood. The characters’ clothing, the lighting, and the set design all felt like my childhood.”

As for whether he had thought about what his last role would be, Tony pondered for a while and then responded, “I hope my role will bring out a feeling of love. As my last film, I hope it will be like that, very heartwarming and warm, giving people a feeling that life is very meaningful.”

“Just like a movie I watched before, ‘What a Wonderful World,’ which I watch every Christmas. It’s a comedy, but I cry when I watch it and feel love,” he added.
