Having won Best Actress at the recently held Hong Kong Film Awards, Fish Liew recently admitted that she does have a new concern when it comes to her acting career.
The Malaysian actress, who sat down for an interview following her victory, said that she now worries that she will be overexposed, after winning Best Actress back-to-back for her performance in “Someone Like Me”.
“I worry that I will be overexposed and whether it will affect my future acting. Will the audience get tired of me? Will the audience think that it is the same person again and again, and that it will be annoying? I also worry that I will not be able to improve, or whether I will not be able to encounter better roles,” she said.
Fish stated that she cannot control her way of thinking this, and that it has made her feel like she should be taking a break for a while.
“Now it is different from before. We have more online social media. In fact, the distance between us and the audience is closer. So, I also want to ‘go into hiding’ for a while,” she said.
However, the actress admitted that she is thankful for the recognition, saying that it felt like a way to give her and her family peace of mind.
“I think it’s one of the things that puts their minds at ease, because my mother is my biggest fan on this planet. She’s not actually a big movie fan, but she watches every single one of my movies and TV series that I appear in… Sometimes the movies I act in aren’t very mainstream, or the themes are less common, so she might find them boring, but she still watches them.”
It is noted that the actress has also won Best Actress at the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Award and the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild Awards for her performance in the movie.
