Among all the female nominees for the Hong Kong Film Awards, Shu Qi is the most powerful one, having received two individual nominations for her directorial effort, “Girl”.
The Taiwanese darling, who made her directorial debut with the coming-of-age story, has been nominated for the first time as Best Director and Best New Director – the first time for her receiving nominations not in the acting category.
Shu Qi herself is no stranger to the HKFA, having won Best New Performer and Best Supporting Actress in 1997 for “Viva Erotica,” followed by 1999 Best Supporting Actress win for “Portland Street Blues”.
Her last HKFA nomination was in 2012 for “A Beautiful Life,” although she did not win the award.
In addition, the movie “Girl” is also nominated for Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography.
