Jacky Heung was being self-deprecating in talking about his life when he joined the mainland variety show, “The Main Guest and His/Her Friends” recently.
The Hong Kong actor, who is the son of Hong Kong movie mogul Charles Heung and highly respected producer Tiffany Chen, spoke candidly about his parents’ fame and glamour on the show, and jokingly stated that people should not blame him for how he ended up.
“My original family has issues. My dad is the ‘Godfather of Film’ and my mum is the ‘Godmother of Hong Kong entertainment’. Me? Poorly raised,” he said, adding that even his wife, actress Bea Hayden is very famous.
“Men fear choosing the wrong career, women fear marrying the wrong man. Clearly, our family fears nothing,” he added, drawing laughter from the others.
Jacky said that when one’s family has a starting point that is too high, the only path left for one is downhill.
He described how everything had once gone too smoothly for him, leading to “an explosion, tearing apart, and a fall.” This echoed his father’s previous statement, that despite his ability to make any actor popular, he failed to elevate his own son’s career and that his determination to do so was the biggest mistake of his career.
