Barry Manilow recently announced that he had to cancel a series of upcoming shows, after he was diagnosed with lung cancer.
In an announcement made on 22 December, the legendary singer wrote that after going through six weeks of bronchitis and another five weeks of the same thing, his doctors found a cancerous spot on his left lung that needs to be removed.
“It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news,” said Manilow. “The bad news is that now that the ‘Christmas A Gift of Love’ concerts are over, I’m going into surgery to have the spot removed. The doctors do not believe it has spread and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis. So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and ‘I Love Lucy’ reruns.”
Manilow said that his January arena concerts will have to be rescheduled since he will need a month to recover.
“I’m very sorry that you have to change your plans. Just like you, we were all looking forward to the January shows and hate having to move everything around,” he added.
The singer then reminds fans to get tested even if they have the slightest symptom.
