Shirley Yeung recently revealed that she was actually sent to the ICU following a mishap during rehearsals for the TVB Anniversary Gala more than two decades ago.

The actress and former Miss Hong Kong shared that piece of news on ViuTV’s “Talker – Club MURMUR”, recalling that while rehearsing a difficult routine with her partner, she accidentally fell headfirst, slamming her head against the hard surface.

She described the situation as extremely serious and at one point, she thought her life was hanging by a thread.

“It was like someone hit my head with a hammer, ‘Bang!'” she said.

After the accident, Shirley was immediately rushed to the hospital. Further examination revealed that she had brain oedema, which required admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for observation. Her entire family rushed to the hospital, seemingly to see her for the last time.

Shirley revealed that the aftereffects of the injury still plague her, including memory loss and she was diagnosed with permanent brain damage at the site of the injury. She also stated that her company issued a gag order, strictly prohibiting her from publicly disclosing her ICU stay, and only allowed her to simply explain that she was injured.

Shirley stated that her company informed her that she must attend the TVB Anniversary Ceremony as scheduled a few days after the incident, as they were presenting her with the “Most Improved Female Artist” award that evening.

Hosts Adam and Howard couldn’t help but tease, “That’s definitely the ‘Most Improved Female Artist’ award!”
