Wang Junkai (Karry Wang) gained attention recently, after he took to social media to ask people to watch the movie and not his face.
A Weibo post made by the TFBoys member sparked speculations recently, when he suddenly wrote, “Please respect movies! Respect every audience who walks into the theatre and loves movies! Watching movies in a civilised manner and observing movie-watching etiquette is the most basic respect for the creators!”
“The movie is on the screen, not on my face!” he added.
While some didn’t understand the context of the post, others stated that Wang was expressing his frustration over the recent situation at the 9th Pingyao International Film Festival.

Wang, who was one of the jury members, appeared at the screening of “Spring in a Small Town”, but found himself getting the attention from some audience members instead.
According to eyewitnesses, about ten minutes after the film started, a large number of people entered the theatre. Many of them turned their heads or bodies 90 degrees and stared at Wang’s seat for an extended period, some even smiling while doing so, completely ignoring the film playing on screen. In addition, some repeatedly used phone flashlights to take pictures of the actor, disrupting the theatre’s lighting environment.
His Weibo post had since attracted support from many netizens, saying that film festivals should be places to appreciate movies, not platforms for celebrity worship.
