Hiroya Shimizu has recently been arrested on the suspicion of violating Japan’s law on drugs.
It was reported that the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) conducted a search in his home in Suginami ward on the evening of 3 September, where they found cannabis and rolling paper.
The “Tokyo Revengers” actor has reportedly admitted to the allegations to the investigators, according to Mainichi News.
The MPD’s drug and firearms control division has also arrested a woman in her 20s living with Shimizu for the same charge.
According to investigative sources, police received information in January about suspected cannabis use by Shimizu. Police are investigating the source of the drugs and analysing the seized items, considering the possibility that the actor was a habitual user.
His agency has also released a statement, saying that they have no further information beyond what has been reported.
