Although she doesn’t have as many scenes as her peers in the movie, “My First of May”, Gigi Leung admitted that she was grateful to be a part of such a beautiful movie.

Speaking to the audience at a film sharing session for the said Aaron Kwok-starrer on 23 August, the singer-actress said that her character, a mum who abandons her sick child, reveals the fragility of human nature.

“We’re all humans. When a caregiver’s path feels like an endless, dark tunnel, they’re bound to be afraid, wondering when it will end… and even tempted to run away,” she said.

Gigi continued, “Caregivers may also have thoughts of giving up. Don’t blame yourself too much. The most important thing is to find someone to relieve stress. While caring for others, you also need to take good care of yourself, both physically and mentally.”

The actress said that she hopes the movie will inspire caregivers and encourage the audience.

“Being a caregiver for someone with a chronic illness isn’t easy! Keep it up!” she added.

Gigi also admitted that she cried watching the movie for the first time.

“I released all the emotions I hadn’t fully let go of during filming. I told the director that I’ve been waiting for the movie to come out because, in my mind, I still hadn’t completely let go of this ‘bad mother’ character,” she added.
