While her Hong Kong peers are celebrating at the Hong Kong Film Awards, Kara Hui is breaking her own record by winning Best Actress at the 20th Huabiao Awards in China.

The actress won for her performance in the mainland-Hong Kong co-production, “Love Never Ends”, where she plays an empty-nester Li Huiru, becoming the first Hong Kong actress to ever win the accolade.

Expressing her elation on stage, Kara said that movies are her life and that she would give 300 percent of her effort to ensure Chinese films will continue to do excellent.

“Today’s Chinese films are flourishing with technology, talents, and good themes. I believe it will get better and better, and we will be able to stand at the top. Even if we encounter any difficulties, we Chinese actors are tough and are not afraid of any difficulties,” she expressed.

Her winning also meant that the veteran star is also the first Hong Kong actress to have been nominated in the major Chinese awards, including the Golden Rooster Awards (also for “Love Never Ends”) and the Hundred Flowers Awards (for “My People, My Country”).
