Johnnie To recently revealed that he plans to work with Tony Leung Chiu Wai again sometime in the future.
The filmmaker, who spoke to Screen Daily ahead of his masterclass at the Doha Film Institute’s Qumra lab, stated that he is currently preparing for a gangster feature that he hopes will star the multiple award-winning Hong Kong actor.
“I hope I can get together with him to make one movie – before he retires, or I retire,” he said.
However, Johnnie admitted that no contract has been signed despite having spoken to Tony about it.

It is noted that the two have only worked together four times, with the last project being 27 years ago.
At the same time, Johnnie also hopes to make the third instalment of “Election”. It is noted that the first and second movies, starring Simon Yam and Tony Leung Kar Fai, were released in 2005 and 2006.
“Now is not good timing, If I have chance to make it, I will make it,” he said, adding that it would require for things to change in Hong Kong as it will only be logical for the story to be made in Hong Kong.
