The tariff war between China and the United States has made Crystal Liu the butt of the joke among mainland netizens due to her being an American citizen who works in China.
It was reported that the actress may be starring in a mainland series, “Tearless Snow” alongside Zhang Ruoyun, the latter who became famous through the drama, “Joy of Life” and playing the lead in the costume drama.
It is noted that Zanilia Zhao was previously rumoured to star in the drama before Crystal’s name circulated online.
While many expressed their excitement for the new show, many decided to make fun of the actress, saying that her salary should first be subjected to a 125 percent tariff. Others also mocked her, saying that she was making money from the Chinese people only to turn around and pay taxes to the United States.

Crystal, who was born in Wuhan, moved to the United States in 1997 when she was 10, and returned to China five years later to attend the Beijing Film Academy. She has been working ever since, although the actress became an American citizen in 2002.
This is not the first time that the “Mulan” star was being criticised for her nationality. Many expressed dissatisfactions when she became the ambassador of Huawei’s Hima Luxeed back in March, saying that the company should have engaged an actual Chinese celebrity to endorse their car.
