Donnie Yen recently took to social media to apologise to the public, following the controversy surrounding his excessive security detail at a recent appearance.
Earlier, netizens expressed their annoyance on social media, with videos and photos showing Donnie being escorted by a large number of security guards despite the fact that there weren’t many fans around.
Some also commented that there seemed to be more security guards than actual passersby.
In response to the backlash, Donnie posted his apology on Weibo and wrote, “[I am sorry] that people were feeling uncomfortable with the security arrangement when I attended a brand event in Shenyang a few days ago. When I arrived at the scene, I was also very surprised. We had never asked for such a big arrangement.”
“But after the feedback and communication, the reply I received was that these arrangements are for safety reasons, and we have to accept it. Thank you to all my friends who criticised such “pomp” with photos and videos. I don’t like it as much as you do and I agree with you and know why you have so many reactions. However, I saw some people scolding the security guards. I think they are also working hard. I hope everyone can blame me and my team when reviewing this matter,” he said.
Donnie added that his team has already discussed with the organiser on how to avoid such problems in the future, and then apologised again for the situation.
“I am very grateful to netizens who are willing to correct me and let me and my team be more cautious in work arrangements in the future,” he added.
