“Squid Game” actress Lee You-Mi made history as the first Korean actress to win an Emmy.

The actress bested other contenders at the event on 5 September to win Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her performance as Ji-Yeon/Player 240 in one of the episodes of the hit Netflix show.

“I’m so grateful. Thank you so much for giving me such a great award. I’m grateful to the Emmy Awards, and I love Netflix, who is always by my side, and I also love my agency VARO Entertainment. I’m so very happy! Thank you again,” she said during her acceptance speech.

Speaking to the media following her win, Lee stated that she can’t believe that she won and jokingly added that she can’t wait to brag to all of her friends.

Other actresses who were nominated in the category were Hope Davis (Succession), Marcia Gay Harden (The Morning Show), Martha Kelly (Euphoria), Sanaa Lathan (Succession), and Harriet Walter (Succession).
