Taiwanese supermodel-actress Lin Chi-ling recently announced that she will be donating a huge sum of money to assist the victims of the Taroko Express train crash.

The news was shared on the official Facebook page of Chiling Charity Foundation on 6 April, which revealed that Lin has decided to donate TWD 4 million from her own pockets through the said charity organisation.

“In the future, we will use all of this donation to assist the victims and the injured to provide support and healing,” the foundation added.

The foundation itself has done various charity work in the past, from helping families affected by the Kaohsiung explosion, to the Tainan earthquake, to supporting children in need.

Lin is no stranger to charity work, having been selected into the 2018 Asian Heroes of Philanthropy. In addition, the actress also shoots and releases a new calendar every year and uses the proceeds from the charity sale to help children from disadvantaged families.

Prior to her announcement, Lin expressed her sadness over the tragedy, saying, “It hurts very much. God bless Taroko, let’s continue to pray for the passengers of Taiwan Railway No. 408 train, let’s cheer the disaster relief workers, and hope everyone can overcome these difficulties safely”.

51 people were killed while 179 others were injured in a devastating collision on 2 April, in which a parked railway maintenance vehicle slipped down and fell onto the tracks and was struck by the oncoming train number 408 carrying 494 passengers and four staff members.
