Two weeks after she was accused of “putting on a show” on TVB’s “Kindness People” by one of the participants of the show, Elena Kong has finally decided to address the allegations.

The whole issue sparked after a man named Chan Ka Lok (aka Ah Shun), who is the head of a pest control organisation, published a lengthy post accusing Elena of not being sincere during the taping of an episode of the show in 2024, which revolved around volunteering in the community to help underprivileged residents deal with pest infestations.

He claimed that Elena had arrived late and displayed a cold attitude during filming, and only posed with a steam machine for the camera. He also alleged that the team stayed for just two hours before departing, leaving him to handle the remaining 98 percent of the pest control work alone.

On 25 October, the online media outlet Chong San shared a clip of an interview with Elena, in which the actress addressed the allegations for the first time. She said she initially did not want to respond, but realised that things were not developing as she had hoped and, seeing the filming crew and her friends being publicly targeted, she agreed to Chong San’s interview.

To allegations that she was late to the filming and that everybody was waiting for her, the actress said that her call time was from 2 to 5PM that day, and that she was only following the schedule that was given to her.

She also responded to accusations that she only did 2 percent of the work, saying that she is just the host of the show.

“What does the job of a host involve? It’s to introduce a group of volunteer friends in Hong Kong who selflessly provide voluntary services to the poor or low-income families… So, what I had to do on the day of filming was go to the homeowner’s place to experience it firsthand,” she said.

As for accusations that the production team took away six protective suits from Ah Shun, Elena said that she is not involved in that part of the issue at all. She added that the filming props were prepared by the production team, and the actors were neither aware of nor required to participate in this part.

Regarding claims that she was “putting on a show” and “leaving after filming a scene,” the actress retorted, “Does the house really need to be completely cleaned? I believe this is an agreement between them and the homeowner. I did not receive any notification from our TV station to stay and be responsible for all the pest control work. I also did not receive any instructions from the director, ‘Hey, you’re here this time to clean the house with them, and you can only leave after it’s cleaned.’ I didn’t receive any of that.”

When asked if what she was experiencing constituted cyberbullying, Elena said that she felt that “defamation” was a more accurate term.

“I feel like they’ve killed me outright. Nobody cares about the facts; they only believe one side of the story,” she added.
