GEM Tang is marking the end of her world tour, “I AM GLORIA,” by unveiling her new single, “Free You,” for the first time in Shenzhen.
GEM, who now holds the world record for the most stadium performances by a female artiste after completing her “I AM GLORIA” world tour, performed the pre-release single for the first time at her 159th stadium show on 11 September, making it a final surprise for her fans.
In a press release from her studio, the singer said that by changing “I AM” to “YOU”, she has shifted the focus of her music from “I” to “you”: no longer just exploring “who I am”, but handing this question over to every listener – wishing you to be a free you.
The “freedom” discussed in this new song is not just about personal choices, but also points to whether humans’ free will would be controlled by AI in the AI era. “Free You” is GEM’s question to this era, and also the prologue to her new creative phase.
She also shared several photos from the performance of the song in Shenzhen on social media, and asked, “Does ‘Free You’ sound good?”
