Vertical drama star Wang Gege recently revealed that she has actually lost her hearing in one ear permanently following decisions she made after an incident at a shooting location.
The actress, real name Wang Xiao, shared on a recent TV programme that it all happened in 2019, when she filmed a short drama and had to do a slap scene. Despite already agreeing with her male co-star that the slap will be faked, the actor struck her with full force, sending her flying into a nearby chair.
Wang said that while it did hurt her, she decided to continue filming in order to not cause any issue with production.
Making matters worse, Wang said that she did not seek medical attention immediately after the slap scene, but instead went straight on to film a scene in which she had to jump into the water, causing a large amount of water to enter her ear and resulting in severe otitis media and a perforated eardrum.
She revealed that she only sought medical attention after her family noticed that she did not respond when spoken to from one side. However, instead of undergoing immediate surgery as the doctors advised, she decided to postpone it because she did not want to shave off a section of her hair required for surgery for fear that she would not get acting jobs.
Wang Gege admitted that being unable to hear on one side makes it difficult for her to determine where sounds are coming from, affecting her daily life.
