A year after he was abducted near the Thai-Myanmar border, Wang Xing recently went on stage at the Weibo Night Gala to accept the award for Weibo Annual Influential Person of the Year.
The actor, who appeared alongside girlfriend Jiajia for the first time in public, expressed his gratitude for the honour, and said, “Having experienced the process of cross-border rescue, I deeply understand that the power of mutual assistance in times of crisis is extremely precious.”
He also cautioned that increasingly sophisticated scams continue to rob ordinary people of their peace and happiness, making it crucial to enhance awareness and vigilance. He advised everyone to stay alert, protect their money, and safeguard their families.
It was in January 2025 that Wang was revealed to have been kidnapped by a Myanmar-based fraud group and forced to work in a scam centre, after being duped into seeking acting opportunities in Thailand through a chat group called Su Nan Professional Actors Group.
It was the help of his girlfriend Jiajia’s viral social media campaign and the Chinese and Thai authorities’ cooperation that he was able to be rescued four days later.
