Former NCT member Moon Tae-il, popularly known as Taeil, recently apologised to his victim of sexual assault, as prosecutors tried to get the court to increase his prison sentence to seven years.
It was in July when the first trial court had sentenced him to three years and six months in prison, after he and two other accomplices were found guilty of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman in June last year.
During the final hearing on 17 September, Taeil was given a chance to give a final statement, where he bowed his head and said, “I admit all wrongdoing and am deeply remorseful. I know no words or actions can undo the harm suffered by the victim. What I did was irresponsible and foolish. I will spend my life atoning.”
“Watching the victim and our families suffer made me truly grasp the weight of my actions. I will never commit another crime and will live honestly,” he added.
His attorney defended Taeil, stating that the singer has had no major controversies prior to the crime, and that he has paid the price of being removed from his group and from his management agency.
They added that Taeil’s mother also had to quit her job due to the case.
