The Korean entertainment industry was shocked after hearing the news of actor Song Young-kyu’s death.

According to the Yongin Dongbu Police Station, Song was found dead inside a parked vehicle in a residential complex in Cheoin-gu, Yongin, at around 8 AM on 4 August. Authorities have stated that no signs of foul play have been found at this time.

Song’s funeral wake has been set up, with the burial scheduled for 8AM on 6 August at HamBaekSan Memorial Park. The actor is survived by his wife and two daughters.

The tragic news follows a June incident, after he was caught driving under the influence while traveling approximately 5 kilometres in Yongin. His blood alcohol level reportedly exceeded the legal limit for license revocation.

Song had to depart from his stage play, ‘Shakespeare in Love’

The incident caused Song to be dropped from two high-profile dramas, ENA’s “The Defects” and SBS’ “The Winning Try”, as well as the stage play “Shakespeare in Love.”

Making his debut in 1994, Song had appeared in various films and dramas, including “Extreme Job”, “Agency”, and Disney+’s “Big Bet”.

He was 55.
